Photography like a career?

I'm attending college and i'm going to get into my second year .I'm specialising in commercial photography.I don't know why however i am questioning Photography Now.I keep seeing stuff in the news and i'm scared I will not make enough money doing photography like a career.I'm a single mom of two and i'm afraid I'm putting things off opting for photography.Any words of encouragement or anything whatsoever?

Is dependent what type of photography you are obtaining a degree in.

I suggest you obtain a degree, obviously... a minimum of a BA in photography. Always helps when using for any job or beginning out.

Wedding, portraiture, fashion, food, automotive, etc. is under commercial/illustrative photography. I suppose you are doing that. The correct answer is tough. I'd keep on - although start using around for many part-time jobs at some stores... you are able to eventually reach manager or something like that like this and continue with photography like a sideline before you graduate and/or hit the success trail.

In the end, while being happy is essential, same with remaining alive.

Keep in mind that photography is all about 50% business. This is exactly why some uni/schools focus a great deal on business - useful if this arrives towards the 'real' world.

I'd also suggest being a slave or at best another shooter. No, I am not kidding here... quite simply, offer the services you provide to some professional shooter. You can locate one that will help you to work with them... but when you are able to, the knowledge and what you can learn are almost limitless. Work with free, if you need to. This stuff are frequently assumed it isn't the simplest factor to obtain, employed by a professional. Think about it as being a privilege. Heck, they may eventually start feeling guilty or from the sort and provide you some cash, too.
