The Historic Legacy Of Thailand Unfolds At The Illustrious Bangkok National Museum

Ideally located adjacent to Sanam Luanf in what was formerly the Front Palace lies the sprawling tribute to Thai history that is the Bangkok National Museum. Famed as one of most expansive museums of its calibre in the region of South East Asia, this prolific venue consists of six structures.  Housing innumerable artefacts from the days when Ayuthaya and Sukhothai were the state capitals, this museum also contains relics from Thai history and culture with special significance devoted to its Buddhist identity.

Must see-points within the compound include the Sivamokhapiman Hall where galleries with exhibits pertaining to Thailand's' history and prehistory are found. This is also where the country's first literary work namely the King Ram Khamhaeng Inscription is also on display. Earning a place in UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme Register for global significance, this historic inscription is said to elaborate the Sukhothai kingdom's resplendent wealth and superiority while emphasising the monarch's benevolence.

Other highlights in the locale include the Buddhaisawan Chapel or Wat Buddhaisawan which houses the sacred Phra Buddha Sihing image. Originally constructed in 1787, the myth surrounding the statue states that the holy statue floated to Thailand from the shores of Sri Lanka although it is considered a Sukhothai work.

Guests should also note the magnificent murals that are visible in the quarter while the breathtaking jewellery and gem display at the museum is also worth the visit. In addition to royal possessions the exhibit also encompasses weaponry; ivory works as well as captivating musical instruments that dominated Thai culture through the ages. Fine examples of Asian art and antiques are also found here as well as beautifully detailed giant shadow puppets that were used as a mode of entertainment back in the day.

Numerous educational activities are also available at the museum including photography and slide show demonstrations as well as specially conducted tours. The museum's education centre also has a well-stocked library while volunteers at the National Museum also conduct guided tours of the venue.

Visitors in search of a Bangkok Sukhumvit hotel near MRT facilities can do no better than the President Solitaire Bangkok which is conveniently located close to the Nana BTS Sky train station. Pleasantly situated in the heart of the downtown area, this charming rest is one of the most luxurious hotel apartment Bangkok has on offer.
