help in starting with self-employment in British Columbia?

I want to start a company selling my photography, writing, music, art, etc. As a self-employed person, I would be eligible for certain tax write-offs, etc, but I don't really know what resources are available to help me, or where to begin. I already have some sales on the go, so I need to get this off the ground.

Talk to the SBDC (Small Business Development Commission?) or equivalent in BC. Look in the blue pages of the phone book to find where Business Registration is done, and phone them up or go talk to them in person to figure out what licenses, permits, etc. you will need.

Since you're selling artwork, I suspect you'll definitely need a municipal license and/or vendor's permit - you'll also likely have to collect and remit taxes to the government on a quarterly basis.

Without knowing all the details, it's hard to say what exactly you'll need, so go talk to the government officials - be friendly and polite - I've found that they are happy to give details if people are just kind to them. I guess too many people treat them like morons, so sometimes they can come across as unhelpful, but that is not usually the case if you make a real effort!
