What do I need to do to change my professional name?
Hi all: I have a Chinese name and I wish to change it to a professional name for my photography career. What do I need to do to change it? I don't want this to be documented in the public record because that will involve too much work.
All I could think is to
1.email friend's and family
2.print new business cards under the new name
3.introduce myself with the new name
please advise
The easy way is to go to city hall or the courthouse and register yuor name. Then, you can use THAT name as your business name. End of story. No law against that. It can't be any worse thatn BANDS who register their name so no one else can use it. It is not expensive, under $100 and you are set.
You can use than name professionally or how you see fit. At least, you are on the record
Now, if you don't want to document it, then anybody can steal that name once you start being successful. What happens afterward is that, you will be forced to not use the name or get sued and you will have to start all over again. Is it worth it ? No
Even if you are documented, you are protected and it doesn't involve anything. You use expenses to write off what you make. Simple.
